Hydrokinetic Power Potential in Spanish Coasts Using a Novel Turbine Design

Nowadays, there is great concern about obtaining clean energy. Governments around the world are boosting renewable energy resources. Oceans provide abundant resources, including tidal, wave, and current It seems that ocean currents one of most promising ways to obtain from oceans. The goal this paper assess hydrokinetic power potential in three different areas Spanish coast using a novel turbine design, named fin-ring turbine. patented was previously tested 2014 Gulf Mexico numerically validated literature. A three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation presented, mesh sensitivity turbulence studies. turbine’s performance represented TSR-Cp discussed. simulated regions with several speeds, focusing on coast. results very promising, upper limit coefficients 37.5%, 36.5% as lower limit. Also, comparisons test data available literature show satisfactory agreement. highlight superiority present suitability applicability.
